“Italy is one of my favorite countries”

Roger Federer: "Italy is one of my favorite countries"

Speaking to Sky Sport during the ATP Finals in Turin, Roger Federer talked about his relationship with Italy and the possibility of playing the year-end Masters in the coming years. The Swiss Maestro said: “Have I been to Italy lately? Just once, a romantic weekend in Milan.

I liked it and we want to go back: I like to come there for the fashion, the people. Unfortunately the period does not allow it often due to Covid, I am confident in the future because Italy is one of my favorite countries.

I had fun on all surfaces, it certainly would have been nice to be in Turin. I would like to play in the future, it will be difficult next year as I will come back in the second half of the season. I am seeing beautiful matches, the Italian DNA is giving an extra value to this tournament in terms of entertainment and organization.

Too bad for Berrettini, but Jannik Sinner replaced him in the best possible way,” thus concluded Federer’s speech.

Roger’s season

Roger Federer‘s recent seasons have unfortunately been influenced by continuing knee problems.

The Swiss, after undergoing a major operation, returned to the field at the ATP 250 tournament in Doha and then participated in two clay court events. In the first case he decided to play the home tournament in Geneva; in the second he won three games at Roland Garros before retiring a few hours after the match with Matteo Berrettini.

Over the course of the grass season, Federer then took part in the Halle and Wimbledon tournaments, where he reached the quarter-finals and lost to Hubert Hurkacz in three sets. At the end of the London Grand Slam, the former world number one admitted that he still had pain in his knee and therefore decided to have an operation again. The operation forced him to miss the rest of the season and, in particular, the Tokyo Olympics and the US Open.
