Emanuel Navarrete Declares ‘Free Agent’ Status, Wants Best Fights Possible

The two-time world champion Emanuel ‘Vaquero’ Navarrete is now analyzing the best options for his career after starting a period of being a promotional free agent.

Navarrete is looking for bigger things after having already achieved a 9-0 mark in world championship fights.

At 26-years-old and holding a pro record of 35-1 with 29 knockouts, the pride of San Juan Zitlaltepec established: “In this facet as a free agent I assure you that, as we have always done, we are going to look for the best fights to give [the people] good wars.”

Earlier this week, Top Rank’s CEO Bob Arum had mentioned the possibility of putting together a 2022 showdown between Navarrete and WBC super featherweight champion Oscar Valdez. Navarrete, who holds the WBO featherweight title, would have to move up in weight.

“I am very happy that my name is being mentioned for great fights… there is Valdez, there are also other champions who catch my attention, many of them want to fight with me and that tells us that we are doing things well. I am going to sit down with my representative Alejandro Brito to see what will be the best thing for us,” added Navarrete.

As a super bantamweight champion, Navarrete dethroned Isaac Dogboe, whom he beat again in the rematch. He also picked up wins over of Francisco de Vaca, Miguel Elorde, Jeo Santísima and Francisco Horta. He then moved up to featherweight and won the vacant belt when he defeated Rubén Villa before successfully defending his crown against Christopher Díaz and more recently against Joet González.

Navarrete is regarded as one of the best active fighters from Mexico, along with Canelo Alvarez, Juan Francisco Estrada, Esteban Bermúdez, Julio César Martínez, Leo Santa Cruz and Oscar Valdez.
